Baseline: The Guitar Album
Metheny
A tune inspired by the happy sound of great musician Pat Metheny. His musical world was always such an inspiration to me. The melody is supposed to be played by the double bass.
Baseline: Why Really
Maria
Maria has been written to honour the rich music of Brazil. A genre in which melody, harmony and rhythm are all equally important. Maria is merely an allegory for the beauty of this music.
Baseline: Why Really
Hermeto
A song inspired by and dedicated to the great Brazilian musician, composer, Hermeto Pascoal. A flowing rubato feel throughout is how I perceived this song. The change of meter is merely a hint.

Baseline: The Guitar Album
Fridge Blues
A traditional Blues feel, using Phrygian colours throughout the song give this tune its character. To be played loud and mean. During the solos the bass line can loosen up naturally.
Baseline: Déjà Vu
Longing

Van de Geyn: :Woodwind Works
Che Cha
Che Cha
A real hard bop/modal tune, I hear a mix of Elvin Jones and Art Blakey. During the solo's try to have the A-sections blend into each other. A drum solo is great, with the B accents played by the band.

Baseline: Déjà Vu
Missing You
This song is a bolero really. The bass line is crucial, although during the solos you can be more liberal. A word to the chord players: triads are great! Sometimes 7ths are too much.
Karel Bouhlee: Blue Prelude
Serenity
Well, the title speaks for itself. The second chord in bar 4 is the one that gives that subtle brightness. Make sure to count the last 2 bars carefully. Some real sms-chords are present in this song.

Baseline: The Guitar Album
Mixed Up
In fact this upbeat song is a study in the mixing of minor and major blues scales. The major 3rd never played right-on-it, but always approached; the minor third always possible. Good stuff.

Baseline: The Guitar Album

A song dedicated to the great composer and trompettist Kenny Wheeler. The tune exposes sets of two different chords that share the same potential scale, yet each with a completely different character.
